Utrecht, 3 March 2025 - The first edition of Future Facade will take place in the Netherlands on 7 and 8 May 2025. This trade event will bring architects, engineers, facade builders and suppliers together in Royal Jaarbeurs. The aim is to explore ground-breaking solutions, innovative insights and best practices. Themes include circularity, new business models and the future of facade industry. Future Facade aims for a circular facade industry through knowledge sharing and cooperation. That is why Jaarbeurs, together with the European Facade Network, TU Delft and TU Darmstadt, is introducing this new event.
Bridging the gap between knowledge and practice
International top architects, academics and industry experts will share their knowledge on the latest trends in façade architecture during Future Facade. Subject matter experts can expect inspiring discussions on sustainable design, adaptable facades and innovative materials. Ulrich Knaack, Professor of Architecture at TU Delft and TU Darmstadt, emphasises the importance of innovation: "Without innovation, there is no progress - and less fun!" Future Facade combines cutting-edge research with industrial innovations and promotes the interaction needed for future progress. It provides a platform where vision and knowledge come together to push the boundaries of facade architecture and create a more sustainable future.
The future of facade industry: leasing facades
One of the pioneering topics during Future Facade is facade leasing, an emerging trend in the Netherlands that can significantly improve the sustainability of building facades. In this innovative model, facades remain the property of the builder and are leased by building owners. This makes it easier to recycle and reuse materials, promoting circularity within the sector. Martijn Veerman, a leading façade expert from Alkondor, discusses the benefits and challenges of this model and presents the first pilot projects.
Tom van der Zwaag, exhibition manager Jaarbeurs: "The Netherlands is a frontrunner in circular facades and enjoys international prestige. To achieve a circular building economy by 2050, we need to share knowledge and work together. We are looking forward to pioneering ideas and cooperation with the most innovative knowledge institutions in the facade industry."
