Are you already ready for the new Single-Use-Plastic (SUP) legislation? As an event organiser or exhibitor, it is essential to be well prepared for the changes that will come into effect on 1 January next. The SUP legislation imposes a ban on single-use plastic for all businesses. That means there will be no more room for plastic that loses its function after 1 use. Disposable cups, for example, are no longer allowed. This does not apply when those disposable cups are made of PET or rPET and are not thrown away, but collected to be recycled into new softcups. In this article, we look at how to prepare and organise your events at Royal Jaarbeurs in light of this new legislation.

Sustainability as a priority

At Jaarbeurs, we stand for sustainability and we stick to it in everything we do. In preparation for the aforementioned legislation, we have therefore already stopped using disposable tableware in our conference and meeting centre (Beatrix Building) since 1 August 2023 and are running several pilots to be completely ready for your event by 1 January 2024.

Reusable tableware for sustainable events

From 1 January 2024, we will work with reusable crockery not only in the Beatrix building, but also in the entire exhibition and conference building. This means you will no longer find disposable plastic at events at Jaarbeurs. Our reusable crockery is thoroughly cleaned after use so that it can be used again the next day.

Options for exhibitors

Are you an exhibitor at an event at Jaarbeurs? We offer you the opportunity to choose glassware or reusable cups at your stand from 1 January 2024. These sustainable alternatives are easy to order through our Jaarbeurs webshop. Of course, it is also possible to use your own sustainable solution, as long as it complies with Dutch legislation or regulations.

Together for a positive impact

Together with you, as a dedicated event organiser or exhibitor, we are making a positive impact by making conscious and sustainable choices. The new SUP legislation is an opportunity to make our events more environmentally friendly and protect our planet. At Jaarbeurs, we are ready to support you in preparing and organising sustainable events in 2024 and beyond.
