Royal Jaarbeurs: the friendly, sustainable and innovative host for all of the Netherlands. A place where you meet, inspire, learn and grow. Our strongest point? Our people. Because together we are Jaarbeurs. Every day we dedicate ourselves to ensuring that a visit to our venue becomes special. But what is it really like when you yourself work in the World of Jaarbeurs? What opportunities do you get as an employee and what does the onboarding process look like? Hong Jansen (HR Specialist) tells us more about it.

'We actually do so much for our people that I don't even know where to start' says Hong Jansen. 'When you start here as a permanent employee, you start with a three-month onboarding process. It starts when you receive your employment contract, you are then shown a personal welcome video by Jeroen van Hooff, our CEO. On the first day, HR, the management, your supervisor, direct colleagues and a buddy are ready to welcome you. You will also receive a staff pass and your own Jaarbeurs cup. You will also receive a Bingo card with activities you can tick off in the first three months. This includes, for example, taking a selfie with your new colleagues or participating in the two onboarding days given by board members and managers. And a lunch with Jeroen to discuss everything. At lunch, you'll talk about your tips and tops from the past three months. This is for everyone who joins permanently, no matter where you start working.'

'We really focus on growth and development here'

When it comes to fringe benefits, too, Hong says that Jaarbeurs invests in its employees. Hong: "We really focus on growth and development here. As an employee, you get a lot of freedom to take initiative and keep developing yourself. You could grow all the way to a management position here. Jaarbeurs is a big company, you can go in all directions and everyone can find a place. And if you think about doing something completely different, there is always another nice department where you can take up a new position.'

Hong says that everyone within Jaarbeurs gets an opportunity to broaden their horizons: 'For example, with GoodHabitz, an online learning platform with courses and training. We also have the Summer and Winter School where we offer additional courses in the quieter periods. These are very diverse and range from training from IT to a course with our chef on healthy eating.'

Sustainability is an important pillar at Jaarbeurs. Not only by thinking green in the output of the organisation's products and services, but also in terms of sustainable employability and healthy employees. Hong: 'Sports activities are already organised regularly. We are now investigating whether we can roll out a larger sports programme to give this more attention. For instance, a boxing clinic, spinning classes or running training to participate in the annual Singelloop. We also offer fresh fruit in the workplace, have a collective health insurance and there is a health survey for employees. The survey is not compulsory, but it is nice to know your overall status. You get a review of your blood pressure, cholesterol and how healthy you are. We want to encourage a healthy lifestyle. For instance, also with lease a bike, where you can rent a lease bike for a good rate. Jaarbeurs contributes a nice amount to that.'

'As I said, Jaarbeurs does a lot for its employees,' says Hong. She lists more components: 'Travelling by ov is 100% reimbursed. Of course, we try to encourage this as much as possible since we are right next to Utrecht Central Station. But if that is not convenient, we also have a good travel expenses scheme if you come by car. Other perks that make working at Jaarbeurs fun are access to our own exhibition titles and the company success scheme where you get a percentage of profits as a bonus. And of course WEY (staff association) organises a huge number of activities to get to know your colleagues even better.'
