Jaarbeurs is working hard to expand its international activities. Last week, the first ever edition of VIV Select India took place in New Delhi: an event for companies in dairy technology, animal health, feed, breeding and hatchery technology and agri-tech, among others. The event exceeded all expectations with 7100 visitors from 37 countries. The Indian fair is a nice prelude to VIV Europe: the big sister of VIV Select India, which will be held at Jaarbeurs in early June. For VIV Europe, 20,000 visitors and nearly 600 exhibitors from as many as 136 countries are expected.
VIV events are held worldwide - including in Abu Dhabi, Bangkok,Jakarta, Kigali and Shanghai - but until now there was no Indian edition. However, India is a fast-growing player in global agriculture and food production. As a result, the country also has a rapidly growing need for innovation and collaboration opportunities. At VIV Select India, visitors from around the world gathered to meet and see the latest innovations. The B2B event was organised by VNU Exhibitions Europe, the international arm of Royal Dutch Jaarbeurs, in close cooperation with Poultry Federation of India (PFI).
Network, knowledge and innovation
The fair welcomed 130 exhibitors from Europe, the Middle East, Asia and South America on a 10,000-square-metre floor. The exhibition floor presented solutions in areas including animal welfare and animal health, automation, precision agriculture, biosecurity and digital tools. The conference programme discussed developments in the poultry sector, and innovations in biologicals and vaccines. Biologicals are advanced protein-based medicines and proteins are also indispensable for many vaccines. Specific attention was paid to the integration of automation and AI in livestock management. A special Dairy Conference brought together farmers, innovative companies and other industry stakeholders to discuss topics such as the position of the Indian dairy sector in a global context and strengthening Indo-Dutch collaborations for the benefit of medium-sized dairy farmers.
On to VIV Europe!
The European edition of VIV will take place from 2 to 4 June. With VIV Europe 2026 coming to Utrecht, Jaarbeurs will be the international hub for animal protein production entrepreneurs for three days. Exhibitors from around the world will present their breakthrough innovations, breakthrough technologies and latest products that are fundamentally changing the way we produce animal proteins. A protein transition is underway worldwide, with a new balance emerging between animal proteins, plant proteins, alternative proteins from e.g. algae and insects, and proteins produced using new technologies, such as cultured meat and fermentation proteins.
Natasha Hall, Vice President of VIV Worldwide and responsible for organising VIV Europe: "Animal proteins will undoubtedly continue to be needed. The transition calls for more efficient livestock farming and better feeding strategies. We also see sustainability challenges growing, such as reducing livestock emissions and more circular systems.
Topics such as climate-smart and more sustainable business, hybrid farming models, robotics and AI are given ample attention in the conference programme. Special attention is also paid to animal welfare in the context of more sustainable business. The future of agriculture is inextricably linked to the welfare of the animals in our care. We therefore consider in detail developments in disease prevention, animal welfare monitoring systems, and holistic approaches to animal welfare linking ethical standards and consumer expectations. As an industry, we have a great responsibility in global food security and I am really looking forward to exploring the future of animal protein production together with our visitors from around the world."
